In his initial interview Miller describes his background in Pennsylvania, his education and employment prior to entering the Naval Academy, his experiences at the Academy, and his service during World War II. Included in the wartime duty was service in the USS WASHINGTON operating in the Atlantic, assignment to the DD GHERARDI and its involvement in the Normandy Invasion.
